#FollowFriday: Mitch Joel

Updated December 23, 2021

Longtime blogger, podcaster, and agency leader Mitch Joel doesn’t engage in treading the same ground as everyone else. His posts and episodes feature original ideas and unique individuals you may not have seen or heard elsewhere.

His weekly Six Pixels of Separation podcast has nearly 700 episodes as of this writing. In a world where many podcasts often don’t survive 7 episodes, that’s a Herculean accomplishment.

Of course, a show survives that long not just because of the commitment of the host, but also because of the quality of the content and guests. Mitch taps into his considerable network to lure guests who can speak about anything from content marketing to robotics — and everything in between.

Each episode runs just under and hour, and the longer format lends itself to thoughtful conversation. It’s almost as if we’re just eavesdropping on a conversation between two smart people who don’t even realize there’s a microphone present.

In 2014, Mitch sold the agency he ran, Twist Image, to WPP. He would go on to run the rebranded business that became known as Mirum. He now takes the knowledge he has developed over his career to establish the Six Pixels Group that he describes as providing “advisory, investing, and content producing” services.

In addition to his podcast, Mitch continues to publish regularly on his blog, including his long-running feature called Six Links Worthy of Your Attention — now up to almost 500 of those lists. The great thing about the articles he shares is that they run the gamut of topics, but almost always give you something to think about.

Of course, I’d be remiss if I failed to mention that Mitch is also a successful author. He has written Six Pixels of Separation and CTRL ALT Delete. He is also a recognizable keynote speaker who frequently headlines business and communications events.

For all that Mitch has done (and will continue to do) to offer insights and perspectives for communicators, business leaders, and agency owners, he is this week’s #FollowFriday recommendation.
